Cock-n-Bull

Street scene in Provincetown of the Cock-n-Bull and adjacent alley at dusk.  This building, built before 1858, was bought by Obadiah Snow in the 1870s, where he sold household goods. Obadiah was listed in the 1850 census as a boatbuilder.  In a shed at the rear of the store, he built the Judith.  Despite fears that the ship was destroyed  by the Portland Gale in November 1898, she came through unscathed.  The composition of the painting gives us a glimpse into Obadhiah’s world.
